Court Orders Shatta Wale To Pay $120,000 To Wildaland Festival

Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has been ordered by an Accra High Court to pay $120,000 to Maverick City Entertainment, the organizers of the Wildaland Festival.

The court, led by Her Ladyship Afi Agbanu Kudomor J., granted various reliefs to the plaintiff, including interest on the amount from December 14, 2021, to the final payment date at a 5.5% rate, totaling $10,892.47. Shatta Wale is also required to pay Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC20,000).

This legal action stems from Shatta Wale’s non-performance at the 2021 Wildaland Festival, despite having received the full $120,000 payment. The festival founder, Sadiq Abudulia Abu, criticized Shatta Wale on social media for unprofessionalism, prompting the court’s intervention.

In a related development, the Wildaland Festival, known as the “Glastonbury of Africa,” is set to return from December 26 to 27, 2023, at Stone Lodge, Asutuare Road, Accra. Tickets for the two-day event, headlined in 2021 by artists like Davido, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and others, are available on WiladalandFestival.com.
