Drama In Parliament As KT Hammond Nearly Slaps Frank Annoh Dompreh

In a surprising turn of events on December 22, Minister for Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond, attempted to slap Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, in the midst of a debate on the approval of three Supreme Court Justices.

The incident unfolded when Annoh-Dompreh urged Hammond to conclude his remarks in the Parliament chamber. In a social media video, Hammond can be seen making unsuccessful attempts to strike Annoh-Dompreh, who skillfully evaded the minister’s actions.

Responding to the commotion, Hammond stated, “Mr. Speaker, I was actually going to add, I will keep talking, I will not sit down. I will talk to tomorrow. Okay, last sentence.” The incident drew mixed reactions from Members of Parliament, with some laughing and others expressing shock.

This altercation followed the appearance of three judges nominated by President Akufo-Addo for the Supreme Court before the Appointments Committee on December 20. The nominees, Justice Henry Anthony Kwofie, Yaw Darko Asare, and Richard Adjei-Frimpong, are candidates to fill vacant positions on the Supreme Court bench.

As tensions rise in Parliament, the incident involving KT Hammond and Annoh-Dompreh continues to draw attention, raising questions about the dynamics within the legislative body.
