I Don't Believe In The 2023 WASSCE Results, It's Not Authentic- John Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, has questioned the credibility of the recent West Africa Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. Mahama alleges that some invigilators are lax in their duties, allowing teachers to assist students in cheating. This skepticism follows the Education Minister’s claim that this year’s results are the best since 2015.

Mahama expressed concern about cheating incidents, stating, “In many places, they let the children cheat. You go to places and the teachers are conniving with the students to cheat. The effect will be seen later.” The former President, currently on the “Building Ghana Tour,” believes such practices will adversely impact the country’s educational system in the future.

He highlighted the potential consequences, saying, “You certify these children saying they are of this standard, either the BECE or SSCE, and that child will use that certificate, go abroad to a school, and they will find out that your qualification is not up to the standard you say it is.”

During the tour, Mahama engaged various professional and economic groups to gather input for the NDC’s manifesto. Teachers’ concerns, such as the lack of textbooks following the curriculum change, were addressed. Mahama empathized with these issues and pledged to address them if the NDC succeeds in winning the 2024 election.

Expressing worries about the education system’s condition, he stated, “We are worried about the lack of textbooks. You do a new curriculum and fail to supply textbooks, I wonder what kind of government this is. Our education system is in shambles.”

While prioritizing improvements in the educational sector, the NDC has proposed policies, including a government investment in a housing scheme for teachers. Additionally, they promise to review the Free SHS policy within the first hundred days if they come into office.
