Two Persons Arrested Over Sale Of ECG Meters

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has brought charges against Charles Kotei and Frank Ofori in an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly conspiring and unlawfully selling the company’s meters. Both individuals pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, granted bail of GHS20,000 with two Ghanaian sureties each.

The prosecution, led by Mr. Paul Assibi Abariga, stated that ECG Technician Ankudey Rocky and witness Belinda Kafui discovered unauthorized meters during an inspection at Adenta New site. Investigation revealed that these meters were supplied by Ofori.

Rocky and Kafui, posed as National Service Personnel in need of a meter and approached Ofori. He offered to provide a meter for GHS1,200 in cash.

On September 28, 2023, when they went to purchase the meter, Ofori presented one labeled property of the Ministry of Energy with serial number 191499941 and was subsequently arrested.

During the investigation, Ofori claimed Kotei had supplied him with approximately 40 meters to sell between November and December 2022. However, Kotei, in his statement, alleged obtaining the meters from Foli Atigah in Nsawam but couldn’t lead the police to Atigah’s residence for arrest.
