“I Cried At Messi’s World Cup Win”- Peter Drury Opens Up

Well-known football commentator Peter Drury has spoken out about how he was moved to tears by Lionel Messi’s brilliant performance in leading Argentina to victory at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Before this worldwide victory, Messi had dealt with heartbreak in the 2014 World Cup final and great pressure to perform since making his international debut as a teenager.

Former Barcelona and PSG star Messi won the World Cup on a night full of high stakes and intense passion. The legendary eight-time Ballon d’Or winner finally won the coveted award thanks to two spot-on penalty kicks that helped him fix a weakness in his game. Messi scored seven goals during his stellar performance in Qatar 2022, one less than Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappe. The 36-year-old finished tied for first in shots on goal (13) and assists (3), and he had the most of any player in the tournament.
According to FIFA’s website, Messi made history by being the first player in World Cup history to score in the group stage, round of 16, quarterfinal, semifinal, and final in a single tournament.
Messi has already played in five World Cups, and he has scored 13 goals and assisted on eight more. Drury had predicted a 2-0 victory for Argentina in the final, but two goals from Mbappe in the final minutes forced overtime, where Argentina eventually prevailed to Drury’s great surprise and mental distress.
