We Wanted To Escape From Hunger, Frustration In Nigeria – Four Stowaways Arrested On Dubai-Bound Ship

The suspects admitted they were so desperate and overwhelmed by their circumstances that they tried to leave the country. Four Stowaways, Ebi Agrive, Lucky Amusu, Goodness Edu, and Michael Daniel, who were detained by the Nigerian Navy onboard a Dubai-bound ship, have revealed that the hunger and dissatisfaction in the country were responsible for their fleeing.

The suspects admitted they were so desperate and overwhelmed by their circumstances that they tried to leave the country. One of the stowaways spoke for the others to newsmen in Lagos, saying, “Hunger and frustration forced us to try to flee Nigeria.” According to SaharaReporters, officers from the Nigerian Navy (NN) apprehended the four while they were aboard a ship bound for the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the Nigerian Navy, a routine patrol by the ship Beecroft resulted in the capture of four stowaways from the container ship TEME Express, which was headed for Dubai.
Navy Base Information Officer Sub-Lieutenant H. A. Collins released the news on Wednesday, noting that NNS Beecroft Commander Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga had reported that tactical teams had been sent to the ship at Lagos Anchorage after receiving information from the Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, the Falcon Eye Alignment. He claims that upon arrival, the teams saw motion in the rudder compartment, so they entered the ship, found the stowaways, and pulled them out.
“The stowaways were found with a bag filled with snacks and another polybag containing sachet water,” he said.
Ebi Agrive, 22, from Bayelsa State; Lucky Amusu, 23, from Lagos State; Goodness Edu, 28, from Akwa Ibom State; and Michael Daniel, 18, from Ondo State, were all identified as the stowaways.
According to the procedure, they were turned over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Collins elaborated, saying that “the Commander further stated that apart from the stowaways putting themselves in life-threatening situations during the long voyage at sea, especially as they remain in a confined space for an extended duration,” the stowaways also pose a myriad of security threats to the crew with dire consequences for the image of the nation.
